1. Purchasing power
If prices rise 3% and your savings yield 1%, your money buys less. Investors care about real outcomes, not just statement balances.

Hotter-than-expected inflation often lifts rate expectations, which can pressure long-duration assets (including many growth stocks). Cooling inflation can ease financial conditions.

3. Calendar literacy

Nominal vs real
A portfolio up 8% in a year with 3% inflation delivered roughly 5% real - before taxes and fees. The same 8% with 7% inflation is only about 1% real.
